"One generation shall commend your works to another and shall declare your mighty acts."  Psalm 145:4
Legacy Ministry
What is a Legacy Ministry?  We may think that economic issues are outside the realm of Christianity, but in fact, economic life is an important aspect of Christian living.  In the New Testament, Jesus counsels about money more than any other topic besides the kingdom of God.  In many of his parables he speaks to money's proper use, its dangers, and the good it can do in furthering the kingdom of God.

Washington First United Methodist Church's (WFUMC) Legacy Ministry is comprised of an
Endowment Fund Program to support the ongoing ministries of the church and to ensure our economic health for generations to come.  In conjunction with the Georgia United Methodist Foundation, the Endowment Fund Program provides a vehicle for members and friends of WFUMC to make perpetual and lasting charitable gifts to the church.

More information on our Program can be found below or you may refer to our Frequently Asked Questions.  In the meantime, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the church office at 706-678-7116, and you will be put in touch with a member of our Legacy Ministry Committee.
How the Endowment Fund works:
Charitable endowment gifts are separate from the regular giving of our congregation. Endowment gifts create a vital legacy for funding ongoing and future ministries of the church that may not be supportable through regular tithes. Our endowment program accepts contributions of any amount and may be designated to any one of six specific WFUMC Endowment Funds.  In addition, a new fund may be named in memory or honor of a person(s) and/or for a specific purpose with an initial investment of $20,000 or more.

Endowment Fund Management:
The WFUMC Legacy Ministry Committee is comprised of members of the church Administrative Council and the pastor. The Committee has oversight for the funds and makes distributions of up to four percent per year based on church endowment policies with the approval of church leadership. A financial report is presented to the Charge Conference each year and is included in the annual audit of church funds.

Fund investments are professionally managed through the Georgia United Methodist Foundation  in Peachtree Corners, Georgia. The Foundation also provides confidential consulting services at no charge to donors who are contemplating a planned gift to our church.  Please contact the church office at 706-678-7116 for more information.

An annual event recognizes their commitment to the future ministry of the church. However, this would only be done with the prior approval of the donor. The committee respects the wishes of any donor who wishes to remain anonymous.
