Washington First Methodist Church partners with many churches in Wilkes County through the ministry of God’s Marketplace. The main objective of this faith-based organization is to provide temporary and emergency aid, in the name of Christ, to persons living in Wilkes County and surrounding areas. God's Marketplace is comprised of three areas of operation:
Thrift Store and Home Center: Located at 725 E. Robert Toombs Ave. in Washington. Hours of Operation: Friday, Saturday and Monday from 9 a.m. - noon. The Thrift Store offers beautiful, slightly worn clothes and shoes for sale at deeply discounted prices. The Home Center offers household items, books and other miscellaneous items for sale at discounted prices. Clothing and home items are accepted during open hours. Monetary donations may to sent to Washington First United Methodist Church, earmarked for God's Marketplace. Money raised from the Thrift Store and Home Center is used to fund the Stephens House Food Pantry.
Food Pantry: In 2018, God's Marketplace Food Pantry merged with Stephens House Food Pantry. The Food Pantry at Stephens House is open the third Saturday morning of each month. One hundred percent of donations for the Food Pantry are used to further this ministry. In addition, God's Marketplace (thrift store and home center) donates a portion of its sales each month to Stephens House to further our partnership in aiding folks who need supplemental food. Stephens House is located behind Sanctuary Church (1365 Tignall Rd.) across the road from the Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School. Stephens House is open every third Thursday of every month 3-5 pm. For more information contact The Sanctuary at 706-678-3423.
