message from our pastor

Welcome! Everywhere we turn we hear bad news.  There is Good News here at First United Methodist Church. You are invited to experience God in a real way and hear the Good News that God loves you!  Our church family has people of all ages meeting together all throughout the week.  Some of the opportunities for spiritual growth and fellowship include worship, youth and children activities, praise band, children's choir and special studies.

Consider beginning each week with our Sunday morning radio program on WLOV 1370 AM at 9:00 A.M.

If you prefer a morning group setting rather than worship, we have a place for you in one of our many Sunday School classes that start at 10 a.m. In Sunday School you'll make new friends, study the Bible and learn how to better live your beliefs. For adults we have five different classes: Pharr Ficklen, our only Men Only Class, Willing Workers, Faithful Messengers, Seekers and Shepherds.  You are invited to come and see which group fits you best! Senior High Youth and Middle School Youth have their own classes where they meet new friends and learn how to dynamically following Jesus! Infants up to two years old are loved and cared for by our nursery staff. Children begin Sunday School in the 2 and 3 year old class with lessons, play and singing.  We have 3 other children's classes. K4/K5, Grades 1st and 2nd and grades 3rd, 4th and 5th.  They meet upstairs above our sanctuary.  Our traditional worship service begins at 11:15 and includes wonderful music, sung by both the congregation and the choir, prayer and Biblical preaching. It isn't a dull service;  in fact, we know you'll leave inspired when you hear God Sightings testifying to God's faithfulness and blessing in our lives. You'll sing a blend of familiar, traditional hymns, carols and choruses.  Isn't it time you heard some Good News?

Take a moment and click the other sites on this website to see all of the other activities we have to make you feel part of a group whose heart-cry is to make a difference in our community and the world through loving God with all of our heart, mind, soul and strength and loving our neighbors as ourselves.

Don't let the Bad News on the TV drag you down.  Come hear the Good News every Sunday Worship at 11:15. ALSO, at 6:00 on 2-4th (+5th) Wednesday nights from September to April come enjoy a delicious catered dinner in our Fellowship Hall; what happens on the first Wednesday of every month? We have covered dish.  Consider bringing your favorite dishes to share.   Sometimes there is a brief program to enjoy.

Are you interested in Outreach?  You CAN make a difference;  God is at work here and invites you to come, too, and find meaning for life here at Washington First United Methodist Church!  We participate in all kinds of outreaches to cloth, feed and inform those less fortunate than us as well as those in prison. You can join your talents with ours and truly accomplish great things for God's glory!  We'd love to meet you!
