“Building Blocks of Faith”

Our children’s program here at First United Methodist Church is an intentional ministry which provides age-appropriate opportunities for faith development and Christian formation.  We hope to build a firm foundation of Christian knowledge and provide experiences assuring a continuum of growth.   In other words, we try to provide ministries that act like "Building Blocks of Faith" carefully stacked one upon another, as our children grow in age and also in their faith development.

Please read below to find out more about our ministries with children.  If you have any further questions, please contact Denise Moore, Director of Children's Ministries (678-7116).

Sunday School

          “God's Marketplace”

A Rotational Learning Format for
4 year olds - 5th Graders

In the “Rotational Learning” Format:

  • The same Bible story or Bible theme is taught for a month.

  • The first and fourth weeks we offer special activities for children that involve an overview of the theme for the month, music and games. The second and third weeks, the children are divided into two groups that rotate into two different workshops – so at the end of the month, each group has experienced all four activities.

  • Each activity has the same theme but a different focus which allows the learners to experience the same Bible story in  different ways.  Workshops include:

  • 1st Sundays: The Bible story for the month is introduced, the children are taught the monthly memory verse and the children enjoy a group activity or craft.

  • 2nd Sundays: The Carpenter's Workshop - Arts and Crafts

  • 3rd Sundays: The Daily Bread Café - Cooking (AND EATING) Food

  • 4th Sundays: Music Games Team or the Drama Team

  • A staff of adult leaders is recruited for each monthly rotation – so adults do not have to miss too much of their own Sunday School Classes.

Family Events

This year, our Children’s Council decided to offer a family event one Sunday a month.  Sometimes, they are just fun events, such as Bowling or Skating.  Other months have been learning opportunities, such as an Advent Workshop and a Lenten Workshop.
